Coloured anodising

Perforated aluminium sheets are often coloured during the process of anodising to achieve the required decorative surface.

Coloured anodised perforated sheets

The aluminium sheets are coloured during the part of the anodising process when the pores are still "open”. This means that the colour becomes part of the surface, unlike coating which is added on top.

The choice of colour depends on the application as some colours are better suited for outdoor use than others. The layer must be minimum 20 micrometres thick (20 mµ) for colouring.

The composition of the aluminium alloy influences the shade of the colour, the purer the aluminium, the brighter the colour. In some circumstances we can offer to anodise samples of the relevant alloy before the order is placed.
